Why New Years Resolutions SUCK and how they are setting us up to fail!


Woah, I really seem to have my ranty pants on at the moment, maybe its got something to do with closing the decade, or maybe Im just getting old and cranky. (Im turning 40 in 2020!!!)

Heres why New Years Resolutions suck!

We have a sudden conscious thought that we can be better, do better and feel better. So we create these huge goals. 

Please do not grill me on goal setting, Im all for it IF IT IS IN ALIGNMENT! Yes, Im shouting! (Ranty pants are firmly on!)

When we create these huge goals, we literally pluck things out of the air that we have seen before. It may be from someone that you aspire to be like, someone who has inspired you or maybe it is what you feel you “should” be doing. Whatever it is, unless you have a plan to execute it, by February, you will come up short and feel like you have failed. I see it every year!

I dont want that for you! 

How we set up to fail.

These MASSIVE changes that we think we truly want are totally achievable, so long as they are in alignment with who we are and how we do life. 

If you want that immaculately athletically toned body, hidden deep within, to be worn with confidence and visibility, you had better be damn ready to radically change your diet. 

You had better be ready to move for many hours in the day, rebuilding, cardio and recovery. 

(Do you know just how many hours it takes to work through the mindset, the movement and the breakdowns to look like an athlete. Do you have that kind of time?)

If you realise that you work full time, maybe you have kids or family to look after and you also want a social life, lets create a more strategic plan. Im not saying that looking like an athlete is unachievable, you just can not control time. Alignment means that you are prioritising what you want and how you want to spend those precious free hours. 


I have some EPIC plans for 2020 and beyond. I have started already!

I personally find January 1st to be an arbitrary date, just get started. 

Try it on, see how it fits and see if you need to make a few adjustments. 

I started running a few weeks ago. 

My moto has always been that “if you see me running, you should be too, because something is definitely chasing me.”

This was an old thought and belief. 

There are many old thoughts and beliefs that I do not wish to take into 2020 with me. 

Has my running been perfect? Hell no! We had Christmas in there, some injuries and now some wicked sciatic pain. Am I giving up……NO. If I cant run, I walk, stretch and just move.

If there is one message that I REALLY want you to hear, it is to set goals that set you up to succeed. We apparently over estimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in three years. 

Take some time to think about what you want your year to look like. Take some time to think about where you want to be in three years and chunk down some of your goals. 

Im wondering if running a workshop to assist you with your alignment could be beneficial. We need to make sure that your PERSONAL goals are aligned with who you are and who you want to be. 

We need to align your head with your heart and your health. 

I will think about this one.
